Calia Privacy Policy
What this policy covers
This policy describes information used by Calia's ingredient selection, recipe matching, serving adjustments, guided cooking, timers, and kitchen notes. These cooking and record-keeping functions work with information saved on your device. The descriptions below apply to those functions and the choices you make while using them.
Meal choices and cooking progress
When you select ingredients, Calia saves the selected ingredient names, serving count, and time preference. These choices help match recipes for the meal you are planning; they are not a record of the quantities in your fridge.
Starting a recipe saves a copy of that recipe, the chosen servings and any selected replacement, your current step, and each timer's running or paused state and deadline. This lets you resume the same cooking session after navigating back, leaving the app, or restarting it. The app keeps one active cooking session at a time.
Sound, haptic, and keep-screen-awake preferences are saved separately as device preferences. The cooking functions use these records locally; they do not upload your ingredient selection or cooking progress.
Notes, photos, and voice recordings
A kitchen note may include text you write, a photo you choose or take, and a voice memo you record. When you save it, Calia keeps the note with its recipe name, creation date, attached media, and recording duration in the app's private storage. You can view, play, edit, or delete saved notes from Kitchen shelf. These kitchen-note functions do not upload your notes or media.
A photo remains part of the current draft until you save the note. Recording creates a temporary audio file before you tap Save; the recorder limits a memo to about one minute. Cancelling the editor removes its temporary recording when cleanup succeeds. A failed save does not mean the draft was saved: the app shows an error so you can retry. Temporary files may remain if the app is interrupted or cleanup fails.
Photos, camera, microphone, and reminders
For a kitchen note, Choose photo uses the system photo picker, which supplies the image you select rather than access to your whole library. Take photo requests camera access to capture an image for that note. Record a voice note requests microphone access to record the memo. You can decline camera or microphone access and continue selecting ingredients, following recipes, using timers, or writing a text note.
Starting a cooking timer can request notification permission for a local background reminder. The reminder includes the timer name and recipe title, which may be visible in a notification preview depending on your iOS settings. Without permission, you can still check the timer in the app, but background alerts may not appear. You can change notification previews and permission choices in iOS Settings; declining a permission does not delete an already saved kitchen note.
Keeping and deleting your records
Saved cooking choices and kitchen notes remain in the app's storage until you change or delete them, clear local data, or remove the app. Ending a cooking session removes the active progress and cancels its pending timer reminders; it does not delete kitchen notes you have saved or your last ingredient selection.
Delete kitchen note removes the selected note and its app-owned photo and voice memo. Settings → Delete local data clears meal choices, active cooking progress, saved kitchen notes and media, cooking preferences, and the temporary voice files handled by that control, and cancels pending reminders for the active session. Check the result: if file removal fails, the app reports the error and you may need to retry.
These controls do not remove the original image from your photo library, copies you have kept elsewhere, or existing device backups. iOS backup and restore behavior depends on your device settings. Removing the app is different from offloading it, which can retain its documents and data. Do not rely on a local deletion control to erase every copy.
Document access and privacy questions
The published policy and terms are hosted by Surge. Reading them requires an internet request, which conveys connection information such as your IP address, requested page, and browser information to the host. Surge describes its use of request logs for service operation and abuse prevention in its own privacy policy. Opening these documents does not attach your cooking records, notes, photos, or recordings; clearing local cooking data does not erase the host's access logs.
For questions about these cooking records or this policy, contact reach@iocalia.com. Please describe the problem without sending private photos or recordings unless you intend to include them. We may revise this policy when the described functions or their data handling change; the revision date appears below.
